DAWN TREADER PERFORMANCE BRINGS MOTOR RACING LEGENDS TO PISTONS AND PROPS 2017

Motorsport restoration specialist Dawn Treader Performance is bringing a collection of motor racing legends to this year’s Footman James Sywell Classic Pistons and Props, when it returns to Sywell Aerodrome, Northamptonshire, on Saturday 23 - Sunday 24 September 2017. The mixture of cars and motorcycles on display are linked to some of the biggest names in racing history.

Managing Director Patrick Morgan said: “Being a home event for us, the Sywell Classic is always an event we look forward to. I'm extremely excited to drive the Penske, these brutish and iconic cars were such a huge part of motorsport as I was growing up. We are all working hard to have Casey Stoner's multi-race winning Ducati running, it represents nearly 18 months of effort for us so to be able to hear it sing at 20,000rpm will be something very special.”

The great Emerson Fittipaldi’s 1994 Penske PC23, fitted with the Ilmor 4 cam engine that dominated the season, will take pride of place alongside Capelli’s Leyton House CG901 to interest racing car fans.

One of Fittipaldi's two cars during the latter half of the 1994 season before becoming the primary test car during the winter, the PC23 epitomised the Indycar of the 1990s. It was sold to the Bettenhausen team in early 1995, where it was raced by Stefan Johansson. That part of its history is still being researched as Bettenhausen also bought chassis 09.

The CG901 was the third Formula 1 car designed by current Red Bull technical chief Adrian Newey. It's extremely compact design allowed it to punch well above its' weight during the second half of the 1990 season. Famed for its tight cockpit, drivers Ivan Capelli and Mauricio Gugelmin had to lift out after races due to excessive cramp.

Motorcycle racing enthusiasts can get up close to Kevin Schwantz’s Suzuki RGV500, Troy Bayliss’ Ducati GP3, and subject to the completion of its restoration, Casey Stoner’s Ducati GP8.

The Suzuki RGV-Γ 500 was Suzuki's entry in 500cc Grand Prix motorcycle racing and won its first 500cc championship in 1993 in the hands of Kevin Schwantz, who beat both Wayne Rainey and Mick Doohan to the prize. This was the most successful period in the motorcycle's history. The Suzuki suited Schwantz's riding style, as he often pushed beyond the limit of the machine, which often led to Schwantz crashing as often as he won.

The GP3 ridden by Troy Bayliss and Loris Capirossi was used by Ducati to enter into MotoGP in 2003, instantly impressing against the might of the Japanese established with a podium on its debut. Design started back in 2001 and the prototype was showcased at Mugello MotoGP in 2002.

Finally, the Ducati GP8, rode to victory six times by Casey Stoner including the Silverstone Moto GP round, has been undergoing a full restoration by Dawn Treader. It was started up for the first time last year after not being fired up for the five years previous. Pistons and Props will be the bikes first public viewing as a completed, running machine.

The Footman James Sywell Classic Pistons and Props is held on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September with tickets in advance starting from £18 for adults and £7 for children.
